What to do

Life centres on the main street and the waterfront. At the north end of the village, The Split, a channel cut by a hurricane in 1961, is the place to swim and watch the sunset. Snorkel trips run to the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve, Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley, and dive shops visit the outer atolls and the Great Blue Hole.

Getting there

Water taxis from Belize City take about 45 minutes and continue to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Small planes also land at the island's airstrip. See the water taxi map.
