The tour

Tours start with a walk of about 45 minutes through the forest, crossing a river three times. You then swim into the cave entrance and wade, climb and squeeze through the passages for a few hours. The highlight is the upper chamber, with Maya pots and the calcified skeleton known as the Crystal Maiden. Visitors remove their shoes in the chamber to protect the floor.

Good to know

  • You can visit only with a licensed guide, and cameras and phones are not allowed inside.
  • Wear shoes that can get wet and clothes that dry quickly; bring dry clothes for afterwards.
  • The cave can close after heavy rain.

Tours leave from San Ignacio, about 45 minutes away.
